How To

Tips for Rearranging Furniture

Always maximize the light. Even if you’re a night owl, there’s nothing like natural light to help a room feel fresh. If your current set-up is blocking any windows, try prioritizing them when rearranging.

Jul 02, 2020

For when you can’t go far from home but are longing for somewhere new. After months inside, it’s possible you’re looking for a change of scenery, a summer refresh, or both. We always recommend changing up your bedsheets, adding a touch of color, and some new decor for sprucing up the place. But when that’s not enough, there are some options for rearranging furniture that could help you get your place feel like somewhere new.

A New Focal Point

Consider the hidden gem in the room. Maybe it’s a fireplace, some eye-catching artwork, or a fun group of throw pillows. Whatever it is, when you’re rearranging it’s best to choose a focal point and organize around it. Highlighting something in the room will help make a room feel centered and intentional. If you’re feeling quite tired of your space at the moment, it’s possible something you really love isn’t being seen as much as it should be.

Follow the Flow

If you’re looking to change up the layout of the room, be mindful of how you wander through your space. Keeping things fresh also means keeping things comfortable, so you want to be sure the throughways are clear. For good measure, keep walking distance between furniture whenever possible. But keep the coffee table or side tables at arms-length because nothing is more comfortable than convenience! These tips might sound obvious but they’re easy to forget amid furniture shifting.

 Wall Art Switcheroo

This one is simple and requires little to no rearranging of furniture! Furniture can be highlighted and defined by decor. So, take a short tour of the art, plants, and other objects in your home. Then, consider moving them to a new room. This will not only help you in your efforts to make your home feel like somewhere new, but it’ll also help you see the things you’ve had all along in a whole new way. Win, win!

Keep Things Balanced

We’re all here for working with different colors, textures, shapes, and sizes. But making these things effective requires visual balance. So when moving heavier and bulkier furniture, don’t forget to throw in an airier compliment, like a plant or some fun lighting

Open Things Up

Keep seating facing each other, but avoid putting seat-backs to the entrance, so that rooms can always feel inviting. In a living room especially, designating conversation spaces with seating or an area rug can help you make a media-centered room feel more intimate.

Let There Be Light

Always maximize the light. Even if you’re a night owl, there’s nothing like natural light to help a room feel fresh. If your current set-up is blocking any windows, try prioritizing them when rearranging.
