Some Sheet You Should Know About Sleeping Naked

Your chance at a restful sleep might be stuck between you and your pajamas.

Mar 02, 2021

Sleep scientists have urged adults to sleep 7-9 hours each night for as long as we can remember. For some of us, the thought of a whole night of good, uninterrupted, deep sleep is just a dream. But considering how much of our lives we spend in bed, we should absolutely do our best to make the most of it. Lucky for us, boosting our quality of sleep can be as simple as getting buck naked. The benefits of stripping down might surprise you.

Helps you fall asleep fast
Small factors can have big impacts on how quickly and easily you fall asleep each night. Some of those include light, heat, and comfort, for example. One study found that bedding and clothing can contribute to disturbed sleep cycles in people of all ages. Sleeping naked can help you reach cool body temperatures and deter you from experiencing any tossing and turning in uncomfortable, restrictive pajama fabrics - both of which can you keep your mind running away from zzz’s.

Keeps you cool
It has been proven that the best quality of sleep is achieved at cool temperatures – roughly 65 degrees, to be exact. With less material between you and your bed, your body temperature can regulate easier and maintain a comfortable cool throughout all stages of your REM cycle. Better yet, when buff meets buttery soft sheets, you might actually just melt into a deep sleep.

Helps the glow up
Sleep promotes skin health. So, if sleeping better naked can get us to sleep faster and maintain a better sleep cycle, it can ultimately be better for our skin. Sleep aids collagen production which is what keeps our skin looking soft and supple. If falling asleep is a stressful event each day or if your quality of sleep is low, your body may struggle to produce collagen and in turn, you may notice a decline in the look and feel of your skin. Studies have also shown that good sleep can heal skin faster than bad sleep supplemented by skincare or nutrition can.

Increases intimacy
Sleeping naked next to your partner can not only increase the likeliness of sex but it also helps release oxytocin in our brains. Oxytocin relieves stress and increases our feeling of safety and happiness. Skin-to-skin contact, whether it leads to sex or not, is great for your mental health and overall sense of wellbeing.

Supports reproductive health
If you have a vagina, keeping it free of tight, non-breathable garments during sleep can help prevent yeast infections and support a healthy microbiome. If you don’t, or you’re more concerned with testicular function and sperm count, you may be surprised to learn that sleeping in the nude can benefit you, too. One study found that those sleeping naked or with loose-fitting boxers had higher sperm count and better testicular function than those who wore tighter briefs to sleep.

Promotes body positivity
What better time to work on your self-esteem than while you sleep? Sleeping naked can help us develop healthier relationships with our bodies. One study found that spending time naked increased self-esteem and overall perception of body image and acceptance. These are pretty big rewards for stripping down!
