How To

How to Decorate for Your Zodiac Sign

Tips for every sign that’ll be sure to keep your stars aligned

Oct 30, 2020

If you’re feeling a little lost about the style direction for your space, it doesn’t hurt to turn to the stars! Your zodiac sign can shine a light on some of your intrinsic qualities that may be overlooked when deciding on the mood for a given room. As an added bonus, this guide can also help you find style similarities between you and whoever you’re sharing a space to achieve the ultimate homey feel.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19)
You’re great at balancing your material and emotional worlds. Your space should feature items that are both aesthetically pleasing and hold some sentimental value, like heirlooms and antiques. Ruled by Saturn, you’ll feel your best in a room that is timeless rather than trendy. A big comfy armchair is the kind of piece for you. It’s the perfect seat for taking a business call and for browsing family photo albums. Plus, it will be sure to stand the test of time.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18)
You are the humanitarian healer. You are the most environmentally conscious in the zodiac ruled by both utilitarian Saturn and innovative Uranus. In the nature of air signs, your taste is also a bit eclectic. A room reflects your style best when it is bright, airy, filled with plants, and features a variety of design elements, like some earthy but minimalist wall art.

Pisces (February 19–March 20)
You aspire to find peace and tranquility in your space. Since you’re ruled by water, you’re likely to feel your best in calming environments with an effortless design aesthetic. Both philosophical Pluto and daydreaming Neptune guide you. So, a designated space for yoga, meditation, or daily relaxation is a must. Your space should include some candles, silky textiles, and cool-tones reminiscent of the ocean.

Aries (March 21–April 19)
You’re bold, structured, and competitive in all that you do. A space that truly reflects you has fiery accents in warm hues like red, orange, and pink to display your love high energy and adventure. If you’re feeling like your space doesn’t totally feel like you, consider an alarm clock in fire engine red to help you stay on top of your tight schedule. Or go for a vivid but earthy pattern to bring some life to your space.

Taurus (April 20–May 20)
You enjoy the beauty of the natural world. Earth tones best suit you, the stable bull of the zodiac. Think deep blues, rich emeralds, smooth cognac leather, and natural textures. To bring some of the earthy vibes indoors, Taurians should opt for materials like handmade ceramics, a wool throw blanket, or year-round linens in Indigo

Gemini (May 21–June 20)
You are eclectic and love to entertain. Represented by twins, you can find settling on one style or aesthetic difficult. So, mixing things up works best for you. Introduce fun and funky patterns in the bedroom, bold textiles, and eye-catching artwork in your otherwise minimal home will inspire you, create a conversation with your guests, and keep you balanced among your many interests.

Cancer (June 21–July 22)
You have a lot of love to give. Ruled by the moon, your space should reflect silver metals, deep blues, grays, and bright whites. Framed photos of your loved ones will make your space feel complete on the rare occasion that you find yourself home alone. You’re a natural entertainer and enjoy hosting your loved ones. Your space will feel complete when stocked with warm throw blankets and candles to set the mood for movie nights and family dinners.

Leo (July 23–August 22)
You enjoy the bold and lavish side of design as you’re ruled by the sun. Tones like terracotta, mustard, and gold accents suit you best. Don’t be scared of mixing up patterns and animal prints–maximalism is in your nature. Your space will need large mirrors, one-of-a-kind artwork, and objects from your worldly travels.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
You’re analytical and detail-oriented. Ruled by Mercury, your home has to be clean and well organized. So, when designing a space, everything matters. Incorporating storage into your design is an effective way to stay true to your style and true to yourself. This can be done with woven baskets, a storage ottoman, and even under bed storage. To put your love for organization and order on display in your home, try color-coordinating your bookshelves.

Libra (September 23–October 22)
You’re driven by aesthetics. You appreciate balance and symmetry in design and life. Ruled by Venus, you appreciate the beauty in all things and tend to be more artistic than other signs. Your space should reflect this with harmonious design objects like books, original artwork, and sculptural pieces. But–you tend to be indecisive. So, starting with sources for inspiration or a vision board may be the best way to achieve a peaceful and cohesive space.

Scorpio (October 23–November 21)
You’re here for intensity and authenticity. You’re ruled by Mars, which also means you can be sensual, private, and mysterious. Dark sultry colors, velvets, and velours may suit you best. You’re not into what’s trending and usually prefer more serious, long-lasting design. Your space could use a chandelier for mood lighting, a dark tufted velvet sofa, and black-out curtains.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)
You’re all about exploring. You might not spend much time at home but while you’re there, you appreciate knowing the world is still close by. You’re ruled by Jupiter, which means expansion and space is important to you. You don’t like to feel constricted. So, a free-flowing design may work best for you. Let the world inside with light leaks from large windows, rustic wooden accents, and walkways as open and decluttered as possible.
